We recognise that it can be difficult to talk about your difficulties especially if this is your first time accessing therapy. This is why we aim to create a safe, supportive and friendly atmosphere whereby we work at your pace and with what you feel comfortable with. Your first session will last for one hour whereby we aim to gain an overview of your current difficulties and provide a summary plan of how therapy can help you to move forwards and achieve the goals you wish to set. We also discuss the different therapeutic options available dependent on the types of difficulties you are experiencing, and how this may relate to your budget and/or time commitments. There is no obligation to continue with the sessions if you do not wish to and you can stop at any time. You can also take as long as you wish after the initial session to decide whether you wish to access therapy further.
We have extensive experience of successfully working with a number of different psychological difficulties including but not limited to the following:
- Depression / Low mood
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Complex trauma (including childhood trauma)
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Low Self Confidence
- Low Self Esteem
- Psychological difficulties following personal injury / trauma
- Adjustment difficulties
- Complicated / traumatic grief
- Neuropsychological difficulties as a result of Acquired Brain Injury
- Other complex psychological problems
We also offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation. This is to gain a brief overview of the problems you are experiencing, before deciding if we are able to offer any help and to see if you wish to arrange your first initial session. Please call on the numbers provided to speak to Dr Sefton or email your details and he will contact you to discuss this further.
If you prefer you can contact us via email in the first instance to provide a short summary of your difficulties and to arrange an initial session without calling.
We currently offer assessment only services for those who wish to gain a psychological understanding of their difficulties but who are unsure about or unable to pursue private therapy at this time. Assessment only services typically consist of 1-3 sessions dependent on the type and nature of the difficulties. We aim to provide a psychological formulation of your difficulties with relevant recommendations and a recommended therapy plan should you wish to access therapy from us at that time.
The assessment sessions last for 1 hour each and are billed at the standard hourly rate (please see Fees for more information). We can also provide an assessment summary report which highlights the following information: Presenting Problems, Psychological Formulation, and Initial Recommendations. Assessment summary reports are billed separately.
Neuropsychological Assessment and Treatment
We are currently able to offer Neuropsychological screening, full assessment, and treatment sessions for individuals with an acquired brain injury (ABI). This may include helping individuals and families who are experiencing difficulties with behavioural changes after ABI, cognitive difficulties (e.g. memory, attention and problem solving abilities) and psychological problems with adjustment, mood, and anxiety. Please contact us to discuss your needs further.
